Professor Matt Lucy


Dr. Matt Lucy is Professor of Animal Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Dairy Science. He received a B.S. from Cornell University, an M.S. from Kansas State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida. Dr. Lucy’s current research program examines the physiological processes regulating fertility in dairy cows and explores practical methods that evolve from this research.


Early Career Researcher Spotlight


Maria Isabel Da Silva


Isabel graduated from the Federal University of Amazonas, Brazil, in 2017 with a BS degree in Biological Science. During her undergraduate career, she developed multiple research projects involving the reproduction and development of freshwater stingrays, turtles, and toads, under the mentorship of Dr. Wallice Duncan, Dr. Michael Finkler, and Dr. Marcelo Menin, respectively. Currently, Isabel is a PhD candidate in the Integrative and Biomedical Physiology Program at Penn State University. Under the mentorship of Dr. Troy Ott, she studies the immunology of pregnancy in dairy cattle. Her doctoral research focus on (1) changes in the expression of immunoregulatory molecules in the uterus and bloodstream of cyclic and pregnant cattle, (2) immune differences between pregnant non-lactating heifers and high-yielding cows as well as (3) the effect of pregnancy hormones in the regulation of the immune system during bovine pregnancy.
